The Hill says the military asked for the arch's drones; NPR says a court is weighing whether it is legal
Nine reports, one Truth Social post. The Hill alone names a requester — the US military. NPR alone tells a reader a federal court is weighing the arch's legality. Not one report quotes anyone in the military.

The post. Trump said on Sunday that the 250-foot triumphal arch planned between Washington and Virginia will incorporate a "top grade military complex" — "large numbers of drones" and ammunition, with "Snipers" on the roof. Eight of the nine reports we hold carry that list. Every one of them traces it to the same Truth Social post.

One report each. One names a requester. One names a court. One names opponents. The other six carry the announcement and stop there.
Not settled. Whether the military asked for anything: no report we hold carries a word from the Pentagon or from any officer. Whether a court is weighing the arch: only NPR says so, and it names no case. What the people the Washington Post describes have actually filed. And whether any of it gets built.
What this is about. The president has said a monument he wants built in Washington will also be an armed military position, and the plan is being contested.
How it got here. A triumphal arch is a Roman monument form, built to mark a military victory. The one at issue is planned near the Arlington Memorial Bridge, which crosses the Potomac from the Lincoln Memorial to Arlington National Cemetery — the United States' national military cemetery, administered by the Army. The bridge and the parkland around it are federal property, run by the National Park Service, and new federal construction in Washington is reviewed by the National Capital Planning Commission and the Commission of Fine Arts. Nothing goes up there quietly. On Sunday Trump posted that he had agreed to convert the arch into a "top grade military complex"; The Hill says the post gave the reason as a request from the US military "for National Security purposes". The New York Times notes the same reason — national security — was given for the White House ballroom.
Who is in it. The president, who announced it. The US military, named in his post as having asked for it, and heard from nowhere in what we hold. Veterans groups and historic preservationists, who the Washington Post says are trying to stop the project. A federal court, which NPR alone says is weighing the arch's legality.
What is at stake. As described, a permanent installation holding drones, ammunition and snipers on the ceremonial approach to the national military cemetery. If the court NPR mentions blocks the project, none of it is built. If the national-security reason holds, it is the second Washington construction project justified that way.
Where it stands. As of Sunday, the plan exists as a post, quoted in every report. No report we hold gives a cost, a start date, or any response from the Pentagon.

Who asked for the arch to hold drones, ammunition and snipers
Whether a federal court is weighing the project, and what it could block
Who is named as trying to stop it, and who names nobody

The arch will hold drones, snipers and ammunition
8 of 9 reports carry it, every one citing the same Truth Social post
Agreed on — but sourced to that post, not to anyone in the military
The US military asked for the change
The Hill alone, quoting the post; NPR, the New York Times and The Hill's live file say only that he cited national security
Unverified — no report we hold carries a word from the Pentagon or any officer
A federal court is weighing whether the arch is legal
NPR alone; the Washington Post says veterans groups and preservationists are trying to stop it, naming no court
Unverified — no case, court or filing is named anywhere in the nine

At whose request
Eight reports say the arch will hold drones, snipers and ammunition, and one says who asked for the change — the US military, according to the president's own post. Six headlines hedge the announcement with says; two state the conversion flat, as a thing that will happen. One report puts the word claimed on the security reason, and one calls it an echo of the justification used for the ballroom.

Two reports mention that the project is being contested — one that a federal court is weighing the arch's legality, one that veterans groups and preservationists are trying to stop it. Two give the height, 250 feet, and two place it by name beside Arlington. No report we hold quotes anyone in the military on the request attributed to it.
