El Mundo says 'five years in prison'; Libération says five years, one of them firm, under an electronic tag
Both reports give a five-year sentence for sexual assaults on nine children at a Paris state school. Only Libération says that just one year is firm, and that it is served under an electronic tag.
The sentence. An after-school worker has been convicted of sexual assaults on nine children at a Paris state school. Libération says he is 38. Both reports give five years. They differ on how much of it he will serve.
| El Mundo | Libération | |
|---|---|---|
| Headline on the sentence | "Cinco años de prisión" | "cinq ans de prison, dont un ferme sous bracelet électronique" |
| Time to be served | not stated | one year, under an electronic tag |
| Children | nine | nine, aged 5 to 10 |
| School and dates | "un colegio de París" | école Vigée-Lebrun, 15th arrondissement, September 2022 to January 2024 |
| Opens on | 52 staff suspended | the conviction |
What El Mundo adds. It says 52 after-school workers "han sido suspendidos" since the first complaints. It does not say who suspended them. The Libération summary we hold does not mention suspensions.
What Libération adds. The children's ages, the school, the period, and that only one of the five years is firm.
Neither names the man. Neither names the children.
What is not settled - What happens to the other four years. Neither report we hold says whether they are suspended. - Who suspended the 52 workers, and whether any of them face charges. Only El Mundo gives the figure. - Whether either side will appeal. Neither report says. - We hold only a short summary of each article, not the full text.
A man who worked with children outside class hours at a Paris state school has been convicted of sexually assaulting nine of them. Libération carries the detail: he is 38, the children were aged 5 to 10, and the assaults ran from September 2022 to January 2024 at the école Vigée-Lebrun in the 15th arrondissement. Neither report names him. Neither names the children.
The sentence is five years. Only one of the two reports says how much of that is time actually served — one year, under an electronic tag — and neither says what becomes of the other four.
The case may not stop with him. El Mundo says 52 after-school workers have been suspended since the first complaints. It does not say who suspended them, or whether any face charges. Neither report mentions an appeal.

What is being argued about
- Five years in prison, or one firm year served under an electronic tag
- Nine children aged 5 to 10 at the école Vigée-Lebrun, September 2022 to January 2024
- 52 after-school workers suspended since the first complaints, a figure only El Mundo carries
- What becomes of the four years not served
