Sa'ar says Israel plans to expel nobody from Gaza; Life.ru says a Nuseirat house was levelled and gives no number
Three reports from one day: an Israeli denial, a destroyed house with "there are casualties" and no figure, and a charity founder's charge that his staff were killed on purpose. None of the three names a single person.
The denial. LBCI carries Israeli foreign minister Gideon Sa'ar saying Israel "is not planning to expel anyone from the Gaza Strip". It is the only report we hold that quotes him, it stops mid-sentence, and nothing in it is set against him.
The strike. Life.ru says an Israeli missile hit a house in Nuseirat camp in central Gaza. The building was completely destroyed, it says, neighbouring buildings seriously damaged, and "there are casualties". No number, no name. Its only source is Palestine's government communications office. Nothing else we hold mentions Nuseirat.
The charge. In the Guardian, World Central Kitchen founder José Andrés writes that the 2024 attack on his workers "now seems" to have been a deliberate Israeli army tactic. He counts seven colleagues killed in Gaza and names none. He gives Russia's attacks on Ukrainian healthcare a figure — more than 3,200 since February 2022 — and the World Health Organization as its source. He attaches neither to the attack on his own staff.
| Report | Who is named as acting | The number | The source |
|---|---|---|---|
| LBCI | Israel, denying | none | the foreign minister |
| Life.ru | headline names Israel; the strike "occurred" | "there are casualties" | Palestine's government office |
| The Guardian | "were killed" — nobody; the army named only in the claim of intent | seven colleagues | the author |
Not settled. Who was hurt in Nuseirat, or how many. Whether Israel struck the house: one source says so, and we hold no second account and no Israeli answer. What Sa'ar said beyond the clause LBCI carries. And whether the 2024 killings were deliberate — the man who lost the staff says "it now seems", and we hold no Israeli response to him.
What this is about. Two questions running through one war: whether the people of Gaza will be made to leave it, and whether the people who bring them food can work without being killed.
How it got here. Gaza is a strip of Palestinian land on the Mediterranean coast. Hamas won Palestinian elections in 2006 and took sole control of the Strip in 2007, after which Israel and Egypt sealed its borders. Hamas-led fighters attacked southern Israel on 7 October 2023, and Israel has waged war in Gaza since. Nuseirat, in the centre of the Strip, is one of the refugee camps built for Palestinians displaced in the 1948 war and long since grown into a dense town.
Displacement is the oldest question in the conflict, and it returned as live policy in February 2025, when the US president proposed moving Gaza's population out of the Strip and resettling it elsewhere. Israeli ministers have since discussed emigration schemes publicly; Israel's government has repeatedly denied that it plans forced expulsion. Gideon Sa'ar, Israel's foreign minister since November 2024, speaks into that argument.
The second question runs back to the Geneva Conventions of 1949, which oblige warring parties to let relief through and to protect those delivering it. World Central Kitchen, the charity founded by the chef José Andrés, has cooked in both Gaza and Ukraine. An Israeli strike hit its convoy in Gaza in April 2024; the Israeli military called it a grave mistake and dismissed officers over it. Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022.
What is at stake. If people are moved out of Gaza, the Strip's population changes permanently and the international courts acquire a case. If the 1949 protections are treated as unenforceable, relief work in every war gets more dangerous.
Where it stands. Other governments have been pressing Israel: we reported on 8 September a warning delivered to Prime Minister Netanyahu at the highest level, and on 9 September that outlets could not agree how many governments had joined in.

What is being argued about
- An Israeli minister's denial of any plan to expel people from Gaza
- A reported strike on a house in Nuseirat camp with no casualty figure
- The charge that aid workers in Gaza were killed deliberately in 2024
- Numbers and sources attached to one war and not the other
