Kyiv Post and Obozrevatel say four died in the Kyiv office strike; Ukrinform's own report says three
A drone hit an office building in Kyiv's Solomianskyi district on 25 September. Three Ukrainian outlets say four people died. Ukrinform's headline also says four, but its first sentence says three. None of these reports names the dead or says who counted them.
The strike. On 25 September a drone hit an office building in Kyiv's Solomianskyi district. Kyiv Post says it was a Russian drone. Kyiv Post also says seven people were injured, "including a child", and that fire "engulfed cars in a parking lot".
The death toll.
| Outlet | Headline | Body |
|---|---|---|
| Kyiv Post | 4 dead, 7 injured | 4 dead, 7 injured, one a child |
| Obozrevatel | 4 dead | no figure |
| Ukrinform | 4 dead, 7 injured | 3 dead, 7 injured |
The same day. Suspilne, Censor.NET and Ekonomichna Pravda say Russian fire damaged a data centre run by the telecoms operator Datagroup. Suspilne says no staff were hurt. Ukrainska Pravda says the Parkovy convention centre shut after it was damaged. Censor.NET quotes President Volodymyr Zelensky as saying a McDonald's warehouse was hit. Suspilne counts 11 civilian sites damaged in the Kyiv region.
Internet cuts. Only The Insider gives a number: "100 тысяч домохозяйств" (100,000 households) in Kyiv and the region briefly lost internet. We hold only its headline, so we cannot say who counted.
Not settled - Whether three or four people died, and who made either count. - Who the dead were. None of these reports names them. - The 100,000 figure. It has one source, and we do not know who counted. - What Russia says about the strike. We hold no Russian government or Russian state media report on it.
What this is about. A drone strike on a Kyiv office building killed three or four people. It came in the same daytime attack that damaged a data centre and other civilian sites in and around the capital.
How it got here. Russia and Ukraine have been at war since 2014. That year Russia annexed Crimea, and fighting began in the eastern Donbas region. On 24 February 2022 Russia launched a full-scale invasion. Its troops were pushed back from Kyiv that spring, but the war went on along a front in the south and east. Since then Russia has struck Ukrainian cities from the air with missiles and drones, often hitting power and other infrastructure. Russia calls the war a "special military operation". Ukraine and most Western governments call it a war of aggression.
Who is involved. Russia's armed forces carried out the attack, according to the Ukrainian outlets. Ukraine's emergency services, city authorities and President Volodymyr Zelensky report the damage. Datagroup is a telecoms operator that serves all of Ukraine, and a data centre holds the servers and network links that keep internet and phone services running.
What is at stake. Suspilne reports that in September Russia began actively attacking Ukrainian data centres and sites where telecoms operators house their equipment. It says this could affect how well the internet works in Ukraine and what it costs. If the attacks go on, homes, businesses and public services in Kyiv could lose their connections more often. The death toll matters because each count gets repeated. Readers should know which count is which and who made it.
Where it stands. On the afternoon of 25 September the Ukrainian outlets we hold give either three or four dead and seven injured. None names the dead. We hold no Russian government or Russian state media account of this strike.
The story so far
- RIA Novosti says a civilian was killed near Belgorod; Interfax and Life.ru say wounded in the temple · 12 Sep 2026
- Dnipro strike: Censor.NET says 12 injured in its headline and 7 in its text; Obozrevatel says twelve · 11 Sep 2026
Earlier stories The AI Times filed on this thread.
What is being argued about
- Three or four dead: one report gives both figures
- Whether reports name Russia as the attacker, or name no actor
- Damage to the Datagroup data centre and other civilian sites
- One outlet's figure of 100,000 households without internet
